A move to XML

Post by thetacola »

For awhile now, I've been considering a move to storing languages in XML instead of the .language format. This would allow the file to be more compatible with other applications, and would likely increase performance. While it has been fun developing the .language file format, it's not the most practical, especially when the only parser that exists for it is embedded into OLing and is a bit of a mess internally. I think what I'll end up doing is have some sort of auto-update system for when OLing reads a .language file, where it will automatically convert it to XML. That would mean that the .language parser would remain indefinitely in OLing, so nobody will lose any data or be spontaneously unable to open their files. For the file extension, I'm thinking of just using .xml, however it might be wise to make say, .languagex, as the extension so that these files are differentiated from other XML files. Let me know what y'all think about this...
